India Buying Intent Index
A monthly measure of India’s consumer buying readiness, by TRA Research.
Understanding our respondents
The India Buying Intent Index is the world’s first macro-economic index built for marketers — and it is only as strong as the people it listens to.
Our respondents are chosen for one thing above all — influence. They are the people their friends, colleagues and families turn to before they buy, the opinion-shapers of their circle. Affluence is a by-product, not the criterion: those who shape what others choose tend to earn more and know more than their peers.
Across the 16 research cities (Apr ’25 – Apr ’26) they are spread by a stratified quota weighted to each market’s economic size, screened to a consistent standard and verified in full. The complete method sits under Research methodology.
Selected for influence, they turn out to be affluent, asset-rich and financially fluent — the by-product of who they are.
Figures describe the TRA India Buying Intent respondent cut over Apr ’25 – Apr ’26 — fresh respondents drawn to fixed sub-cohort quotas each cycle, not the same people re-interviewed. We recruit for influence — brand-fluent, multilingual, well-connected people among the working population and household decision-makers; that they fall almost entirely in SEC A1/A2 is a result of that selection, not a quota on affluence. Shares describe these respondents, not the national population.
India Buying Intent Index is published monthly by TRA Research.
