TRA’s Brand Buying Intent Toppers in July 2026 are Maruti Suzuki, Tata Motors & Dell; Tata Tea, Oppo & Tata Salt Decline

TRA's July 2026 Brand Buying Intent: Maruti Suzuki, Tata Motors and Dell led the gainers; Tata Tea, Oppo and Tata Salt led the decliners.

3rd August 2026: TRA's July 2026 Brand Buying Intent (Brand BI) ranked Maruti Suzuki (Four Wheeler - Manufacturer) as the leading gainer adding 561 BI points, followed by Tata Motors (Four Wheeler - Manufacturer) at +388.6 BI points and Dell (Laptops) at +386.1 BI points. The Automobile category set the tone for July: Maruti Suzuki and Tata Motors led all gainers even as both brands navigate rising input costs from the month's oil price shock, a sign that Buying Intent can move ahead of near-term cost pressure rather than with it. Brand BI covers BI scores of brands and categories.

Rounding out the top ten gainers were Flipkart (Online Retailer - Diversified) at +282.4 BI points, Sony (Televisions) at +268.4 BI points, Daikin (Air Conditioners) at +247.3 BI points, Blue Star (Air Conditioners) at +238.5 BI points, Honda (Motorcycle - Manufacturer) at +232.4 BI points, IKEA (Home Improvement) at +226.7 BI points, and Tata (Diversified) at +207.9 BI points.

The steepest falls were observed in Tata Tea (Tea) down 415.5 BI points, a sharp reversal for a brand that was June's leading gainer. It was followed by Oppo (Mobile Phones) at -362.1 BI points and Tata Salt at -301 BI points.

The next seven decliners for July'26 were Reliance Jio (Mobile Service Provider), down 300.4 BI points, Facebook (Social Media) at -282.6 BI points, Voltas (Air Conditioners) at -274.1 BI points, Asian Paints (Paints) at -269.1 BI points, Asus (Laptops) at -247.5 BI points, Colgate (Toothpaste) at -240.3 BI points, and Bajaj (Two Wheeler - Manufacturer) at -235.6 BI points.

A note on the sharpest category movements this cycle: RTC Foods (+913.8%) and Women's Hand Bags - Luxury (+750%) both run on a base of just two brands each, so large percentage swings are expected. DTH, by contrast, extended its decline to -88.7% on a wider base of three brands, continuing a slide that has now run for more than one cycle. Ten brands, including Mahindra and Mahindra and Vatika, entered the index for the first time this month, while ten others exited.

Speaking on the findings, Mr. N. Chandramouli, CEO, TRA Research, said, “July's Buying Intent tells a story that headline profit numbers alone would miss. Maruti Suzuki added 561 BI points and Tata Motors 388.6, even as the sector absorbs a genuine input cost shock from this month's oil price surge. The consumer’s readiness to buy, is a forward-looking insight into the consumer’s buying behaviour.”
